It seems that this is a huge green laser pointer beam. But how could such a thing appear in the desert?

A Reddit user shared his find in Google Maps. He noticed a green spot in the middle of the frame.

The photo was taken in the desert of Peru near the famous Nazca geoglyphs — a group of giant geometric and figurative drawings on the surface.

The geoglyphs of the Nazca Desert are located on a plateau about 400 kilometers from the city of Lima, the capital of Peru. It is known that the huge drawings were made between 400 BC and 1000 AD by a civilization that was later supplanted by the Incas.

Unlike the Nazca geoglyphs, the appearance of a green footprint in the desert remains a mystery and causes controversy on the web.

While some users jokingly dubbed the trail a secret portal to another world. One of the Reddit users suggested:

"Maybe someone pointed a powerful green laser pointer in the direction of the person who took this frame. However, it is unlikely that anyone in this desolate area will do such a thing."

There is also an opinion that the green glowing spot was caused by a malfunction in the camera — something reflected sunlight into the camera just at the moment when the picture was taken.

Original news

A GOOGLE Maps user thinks they've found a 'green portal to an alien planet' near the Nazca lines in Peru.

A screenshot of the unusual green dot was posted on Reddit and some users think it looks extraterrestrial.

One commenter joked: "Congratulations human, you have found the portal to our world...."

And others discussed how the area had been connected to aliens in the past.

The Nazca lines were first "discovered" by archaeologists academically in 1927, and have proved mysterious ever since.

Around 1000 of the enormous drawings have been found across the desert, and are so big they can generally only be identified properly from the air.

It's believed that they were created between 500BC and 500AD.

The purpose of the lines is still largely a mystery, but experts believe they may have served as messages to the gods.

It's also possible that they were used for astronomical purposes by pre-Hispanic societies.

The reason for the unusual green dot in the desert is also up for debate.

One Reddit user suggested: "Maybe someone shone a powerful green laser pointer at an aircraft taking those images. Seems unlikely that there would be anyone in that deserted area to be doing that, though.

"A more likely possibility is that there was simply something reflective down there, which bounced the sun into the camera, and was brief enough to only be caught by the green pass (these types of images are composites of red/green/blue/intensity shots to increase the effective resolution of the final image)."

Defects on satellite images

To receive color photographs should be done for two shots. One black and white, high resolution, and the second lower-resolution, but in color. Further the obtained color image is stretched and applied to the black-and-white as a texture. Such action is necessary because due to the different refraction of light rays of different spectrum when passing through the atmosphere from the color image of high resolution from space do not work. These features form the image are almost not noticeable on stationary objects, but clearly distinguishable when the shot fall fast moving objects such as planes or cars.

Panoramic photo

Panoramic photography in particular, photography, obtained by the technology of assembling panoramas from individual images (in this case it may have a small angle and a standard aspect ratio).

When combining multiple frames can create different effects - cropping part of the figures, duplication of parts and the like.

Phenomena "prove" the existence of which can capture a picture of great variety: UFOs, ghosts, "mysterious figures,""mysterious creatures", the mutants, etc.

Reflections in the lens from strong light source

The lens consists of the lens consists of a set of lenses (some lenses of mirrors), designed for mutual compensation of aberrations and collected into a single system.

From the backlight (bright light sources behind the subject or beside him), caught in the frame or outside the frame boundary are formed parasitic pureraria from internal lens elements, called glare (or in slang "hares").

Investigation

Versions testing, their confirmation or refutation. Additional information, notes during the study of materials

During the search for additional information, it has not yet been possible to find the exact coordinates of the point that is mentioned in the original news. A post was found on reddit.com two years ago from the user u / EroticRiffs. He says that he found small red, blue and green dots around the Nazca Plain in the Google Earth app.

The color of these points may indicate defects that are obtained on satellite maps when combining several images into one.
