Location:
Antarctica

It was a clear night with a starry sky and low clouds at the Argentine naval base Deception, located on the island of the same name in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands.

On July 3, 1965, a group of 17 people, 14 members of an Argentine detachment and 3 Chilean soldiers who arrived from the Aguirre Cerda base witnessed the observation of a strange glowing object moving in the Antarctic sky.

The commander of the detachment was frigate Lieutenant Daniel Alberto Perisse, who later became an outstanding ufologist, a member of the military (Permanent Commission to Investigate the UFO Phenomenon) and civil (Commission to Investigate UFO Research (CIU) and the Directive Commission of the Argentine Federation for the Study of Extraterrestrial Sciences (FAECE)).

It was a solid-looking light, round or lenticular in shape, the perimeter of which was blurred, its central part had reddish shades, and the edges were colors ranging from yellow, green, orange, blue and white.

Sometimes he could be seen with binoculars and theodolite. He did not make a sound, and the flight altitude was estimated at 15-20 km.

Mr. Periss calculated that the apparent size of the object is from 75 to 90 meters in diameter, and one of the civilian members of the group, meteorologist Jorge Hugo Stanich, estimated the number of observed objects at four, and not together, but in different places. .

During 62 minutes of observation, which took place during normal weather observation, the object moved slowly, with stops, flashes, fluctuations, disappearances and reappearance (an effect probably associated with the presence of low clouds).

Witnesses noted that it moved in a zigzag pattern, and its apparent size decreased as it moved away.

Stanich unsuccessfully tried to photograph the object, as he did not have a suitable film for the low-light conditions prevailing in the Antarctic winter, and additional unfavorable factors were distance and strong wind.

On the same day, the Chilean detachment, located southwest of the Argentine, also recorded the movement of objects.

Something similar happened to five Britons who, from their base in Antarctica, observed a strange-looking glowing dot that remained motionless for 10 minutes.

On July 6, 1965, the Argentine Navy Minister told the press in a statement entitled "The discovery of unidentified flying objects in the Argentine Antarctic" the following:

From the Deception Marine detachment in the Argentine Antarctica on July 3 at 19:40

Its movement was recorded in a general easterly direction, sometimes changing to the west, at an altitude of 45 degrees above the horizon and at a distance of about 10-15 kilometers.

The absence of sound, which observed speed variations in its evolution, and also remained stationary in space at times, is noted.

The object was recognized in meteorological conditions that can be considered exceptional for the region at this time of year: clear skies, few individual cumulus clouds, the moon is visible in the waning quarter.

UFO reconnaissance was conducted by the meteorologist of the detachment, as well as 10 other people. The observation interval was 15-20 minutes, and it was possible to take photos.

The personnel of the Antarctic naval base Orkadas also observed a reference UFO in the afternoon of the same day.

The object moved away in a general north-westerly direction (330 degrees overhead) and at an altitude of 30 degrees above the horizon, at a distance from the object estimated at the moment, 10-15 kilometers.

This information was transmitted by two radio messages to the Minister of the Navy in Buenos Aires and supplemented with a reference to a previous UFO sighting made the day before (July 2).

The observation of July 3, 1965 at the Deception marine detachment is not the only one that took place in these far southern regions.

Original news
