The electromechanic Deryabin writes to the Commission on AI:
...
Often, in the night sky above the city, you can see fast-flying dim spots. Many people mistake them for UFOs, although in fact they are just birds illuminated from below by the lights of the city. They made a strong impression on me at the time. However, I quickly figured out what was going on and stopped paying attention to them.
One August night, again in 1966, pointing my telescope at the constellation Lyra, near the zenith I saw faintly glowing spots moving rapidly among the stars. For some reason, I stared at them and was stunned. They were clearly not birds. In a northeasterly direction, at a speed of about 10 degrees per second, 5 round spots, reddish-luminous with condensation in the center, but with clearly defined edges, were rapidly rushing. they clearly held the formation in a wedge and in a few seconds disappeared over the horizon.
The objects differed from birds in the following ways:
Smooth and rectilinear movement with a completely unchanged relative position in the formation
Clear outlines of objects at the edges, which is never observed in birds as a result of the fact that they flap their wings.
A red glow in the center of each spot. The apparent brightness of each object slightly exceeded the brightness of a large bird illuminated from below.
The dimensions of each object are from 1/4 to 1-3 degrees.
Hypotheses
Birds
Due to the peculiarities of the bird's flight, it is possible to capture a moment in the photo when an ordinary bird will resemble a "classic" UFO in shape.
Airplane / Helicopter
An aircraft heavier than air for flights in the atmosphere (and outer space (e.g. An orbital aircraft)), using the aerodynamic lift of a glider to keep itself in the air (when flying within the atmosphere) and the thrust of a power (propulsion) installation for maneuvering and compensating for the loss of total mechanical energy to drag.
A rotorcraft in which the lift and thrust required for flight are created by one or more main rotors powered by an engine or several engines. They differ in maneuverability, the ability to hover and almost vertical takeoff.
