Hubert Maltaner, que vive en Munich, ha estado investigando el problema de los Ovnis durante veinte años. Trabajó doce años en el Departamento técnico de la Luftwaffe, y ahora trabaja como profesor en una escuela vocacional.
Su texto alemán y su versión en Inglés, que pudo proporcionar y fechado en marzo de 1972, fueron yuxtapuestos y editados por Gordon Creighton.
El 9 de abril de 1970, un electricista retirado llamado Max Krauss (65 años) caminaba por un camino rural a su casa en Langenschemmern después de ir de compras a Aufhofen (Kreis Bieber/ Rhys, Württemberg, sur de Alemania) cuando tuvo el encuentro más extraño de su vida que aún puede describir con precisión, en todos los detalles.
Su informe es el siguiente:
"Fue alrededor de las 16.00, un día desagradable, con cielos casi completamente nublados. Cuando salí de Aufhofen, escuché algo así como dos golpes insonorizados, aunque no tan duros y duros como de costumbre, sino bastante sordos, como si estuvieran silenciados con algodón.

De repente (¡no puedo decir por qué !) se dio la vuelta y se sorprendió al ver algo que parecía un trozo arrancado del "esqueleto" de la planta que giraba por el lado derecho de la carretera. Esperé a que el viento lo empujara a la zanja. Pero, por el contrario, a pesar del fuerte viento lateral, "algo" continuó su curso, recto, cerca del Suelo.
Lentamente me alcanzó por el lado derecho de la carretera y ahora vi que no era una planta. Lo que a primera vista parecía el esqueleto de la planta, de hecho, resultó ser una bola transparente de aproximadamente 40 cm de ancho, que tenía dentro de los radios.
De un núcleo esférico oscuro con bordes difusos salieron ocho radios o radios radiales que, cuando se ven juntos desde el centro, sobresalían en un ángulo de 70° o 75°. Los radios se estrechaban hacia sus extremos exteriores, sus puntas alcanzaban el perímetro de la bola, que era casi tan transparente como el vidrio, pero no reflejaba.
Visto desde donde estaba, giraba en un eje vertical y en sentido contrario a las agujas del reloj y flotaba, realmente se deslizaba en lugar de rodar a la altura de la palma sobre el Suelo.
Cuando la cosa me pasó, aumenté el ritmo y salí tras ella. En el momento de la reunión, no estaba asustado, sino simplemente sorprendido. Pero no había nada que pudiera hacer: tomar una piedra, por ejemplo, o acercarme a ella y patearla con el pie.
No se me permitió hacer esto, y solo pude observar. Criatura (?) podía rodar a mi lado unos 150 metros. Luego se detuvo, giró en ángulo recto hacia un pequeño arroyo y se detuvo allí. La rotación también se detuvo.
Lo que estaba viendo ahora no está en mi poder para entender. Desde el centro oscuro de la bola en la parte inferior, apareció algo parecido a una manguera que se doblaba hacia atrás y hacia arriba en forma de "U" y luego se retorcía hacia los lados varias veces.
En la curva más cercana a la bola, surgió una luz similar a un hierro incandescente brillante. Brillando, se oscurecía hacia los giros más distantes y solo era visible en los lados orientados hacia el exterior de cada giro de la manguera.
La manguera comenzó a retorcerse como un gusano, se estiró y cayó al Suelo. Estoy convencido de que llegó al agua. El "gusano" permaneció allí por un corto tiempo, y luego volvió a ser arrastrado.
Al mismo tiempo, la parte central de la bola cambió de color a la mitad de su Radio y se volvió lechosa como el agua antes de hervir. La cubierta exterior de la pelota ahora tenía un tinte azulado, algo así como el aire ionizado que se puede ver alrededor de los generadores eléctricos de alto voltaje.
Luego, el extraño objeto comenzó a girar lentamente, deslizarse, cruzar la carretera, bastante cerca de mí, en un paso más o menos en el campo. Y allí desapareció, tan completamente silencioso y a tanta velocidad del rayo, directamente al cielo que no pude seguirlo con mis ojos.
Sin embargo, lo que me sorprendió fue que, poco antes de este evento, todas las aves volaron en la dirección opuesta. Nunca antes había visto a un Cuervo mover sus alas tan rápido.
Al día siguiente, busqué en el vecindario, pero sin encontrar nada notable, también fotografié el tramo de carretera en cuestión.
Durante estas experiencias, no experimenté ningún efecto dañino. Mi esposa rechaza mi historia como ficción. Si este caso alguna vez se conoce aquí a nivel local, supongo que se trata de mi reputación.

“I was walking along on the left side of the road, in order to face the oncoming traffic. The wind, quite boisterous, was in the direction of 255°, and was catching me in the rear at an angle of about 15° from the left.
On the slightly sloping macadamized road, to the right, was water from the recent rain, which was flowing out from a field track.
“Suddenly, I can’t say why, ! turned round, and was astonished to see what looked like a torn-off portion of the skeleton of a plant coming whirling along on the right-hand side of the road. I waited for the wind to drive it into the ditch. But, on the contrary, despite the boisterous cross-wind, the ‘something’ carried on its course, straight ahead, close to the ground.
Slowly it overtook me, on the right-hand side of the road, and I could now see that this was no plant. What at first glance had looked like the skeleton of a plant was in fact a transparent ball some 40 cms. wide, which had spokes inside it.
“From a dark spherical nucleus with hazy edges there came eight radials or spokes which, as viewed together from the centre, all projected at an angle of 70° or 75°. The spokes tapered off towards their outer extremities, their tips extending to the perimeter of the globe, which was almost as clear as glass but non-reflecting.
Seen from where I was, the thing was rotating on a vertical axis and anti-clockwise, and was floating, indeed gliding along, rather than rolling, a mere hand’s breadth above the ground.
“As the thing passed me, I increased my pace and stepped out after it. At the moment of the encounter I was not frightened, merely astonished and curious. But I was incapable of doing anything whatsoever: such as picking up a stone, or going over to the thing and giving it a kick with my foot.
I was stopped from doing so, and could only look on and observe. The thing may have rolled along in this way beside me for about 150 metres or so. Then it halted, did a right-angle turn towards the little stream of water, and stopped there. The rotation stopped too.
“What I now observed is beyond my power to comprehend. From the dark centre of the ball there emerged, downwards, something resembling a hose-pipe, which bent itself back and upwards like a ‘U’ and then writhed about sideways several times (see sketches).
In the bend that was nearest to the ball there appeared a gleam like brightly glowing hot iron. The glowing colour grew darker towards the more distant convolutions, and was only visible on the outward facing sides of each convolution of the hosepipe.
“The hosepipe started wriggling about like a worm, extended itself, and went down to the ground. I am convinced that it reached into the water. The ‘worm’ remained there for a short while, and then was drawn back in again.
At the same time, the central part of the ball changed colour throughout half of its radius, becoming milky, like water just before it boils. The outer shell of the ball now displayed a bluish tinge, somewhat like the ionized air to be seen around electrical high tension generators.
Then the strange object slowly started its rotating, gliding movement again, passed across the road, quite close to me, to a point a pace or so into the field. And there it vanished, so absolutely silently, and at such lightning speed, straight upwards into the sky, that I was unable to follow it with my eyes.
“One thing however that did strike me was that, shortly before the occurrence, all the birds had flown off in the opposite direction. Never before have I seen a crow move its wings so fast.
“Next day I made a search of the surroundings, but without finding anything remarkable, I also took a photograph of the section of road in question. At the time of the experiences I suffered no harmful effects in any respect. My wife dismisses my story as a piece of fantasy. If the affair ever becomes known here locally, I suppose it will be all up with my reputation.
“I assure you that I have told the truth in every respect.”
