Walter y Mary Kowalczyk, cerca de Mansfield, hablaron en la red local de su grupo de Radio con Richard Swain, un sargento técnico de la fuerza aérea que se encontraba en Galion (Ohio).
Kowalczyk informó:
Swain me dijo " Hay algo extraño. Primero, es una luz extraña. Ningún avión tiene esa luz. Es un brillo naranja, no un parpadeo rojo o verde. Y en segundo lugar - dijo-no se comporta como un avión. Ahora espera, hay algo extraño aquí."Y estaba todo emocionado. Estaba en Galion y dijo que iba hacia Shelby.

9:00 p.m. (+-) Walter and Mary Kowalchik near Mansfield were talking on the local network of their Ham radio group with Richard Swain, a Technical Sergeant in the Air Force, who was in Galion, Ohio. Kowalchik reported: Swain said, “There’s something strange. First of all, it’s a strange light. No airplane has a light like that. It’s an orange glow, rather than a flashing red or green. And secondly,” he said, “it isn’t behaving like an aircraft. -Now wait a minute, there’s something strange herel” And he was all excited. He was in Galion and he said it was heading towards Shelby.
