El sheriff se puso en contacto con Fran Ridge justo después de que se produjo el incidente y se informó sobre él. El equipo de despliegue rápido de Ridge, compuesto por tres personas, se dirigió a la zona en cuestión de minutos.
Cerca de Solitude (Indiana), a poco más de tres millas al Norte, se encuentra Mount Vernon. La pareja y su pequeño viajaban a casa después de la actuación en New Harmony, dirigiéndose hacia el sur por la autopista 69. Notaron la silueta del objeto contra un fondo de neblina bañada por la luz de la Luna en el suroeste. Estando a millas de distancia, el objeto tenía la forma de un cigarro con tres luces blancas.
Continuaron en la carretera, y cuando se mudaron a la cima de las colinas, la instalación comenzó a declinar, haciéndose más grande y más grande. Justo al pie de la colina, frenaron y el objeto parecía flotar. Entonces estaba a unos cien metros de ellos y se movía, pero muy lentamente.

"Se comportó como si estuviera en el agua o como un objeto flotante".
Ahora tenía cuatro luces, dos en cada extremo, el objeto oscuro era largo y delgado, "algo así como un cigarro". Érase una vez, "estaba justo encima de nosotros, tal vez 50-60 pies (15-18 m)". No podían creer su Tamaño. Era muy grande.
"Condujimos por la carretera un poco más lejos. Íbamos a estacionar el auto, así que nos acercamos a él, salimos del auto y no pudimos encontrarlo. Simplemente desapareció.»
El tema era "delgado en los extremos" y "a medida que llegaba a la mitad, se volvía más grueso, pero como dije, solo podíamos ver la sombra".

Summary: The Sheriff contacted Fran Ridge right after the incident had occurred and was reported. Ridge’s Rapid Deployment Team of three men were on the road to the area within minutes. Near Solitude, Indiana, just a little over three miles north of us, a Mt. Vernon couple and their little boy were on their way home from a play in New Harmony, heading south on Hwy 69. They observed an object silhouetted against the moonlit haze in the southwest. Although a few miles away, the object had a clear cigar shape with three white lights. They continued driving down the highway and, as they got over the top of some hills, the object started to descend, getting larger and larger all the time. Right at the bottom of the hill they slowed down and the object appeared to be hovering. It was approximately a hundred yards from them then, and it was moving, but very slow. The adult male witness reported: “It acted like it was on water or floatin’-like.” It now had four lights on it, two on each end, the shadowy object was was long and slender, “kinda cigar-shaped.” At one time “it was just right above us, maybe 50-60′. Well, you couldn’t believe the size of it. It was real large. We went down the highway just a little further. We were going to park the car, so we pulled in there and were getting out of the car and we couldn’t find it. It had just vanished.” The object was “thin on the ends” and, “as it got to the middle, it was thicker. But like I say, we could just see the shadow”. Duration: 7-18 minutes.
