The unusual formation of clouds was captured by eyewitnesses over the Rock of Gibraltar. From the outside, it seemed that the cloud was flowing down from the top of the cliff.
Those who landed or took off at Gibraltar International Airport on the morning of August 24 had a breathtaking view of the famous monolithic peak, covered with an amazing cloud that seemed to flow around it.
The Gibraltar Weather Bureau took an amazing video of this phenomenon and shared it on Twitter.
According to experts, the cloud is formed when the moisture contained in the wind rises up a cliff 426 meters high. Since the temperature at the top of the cliff is lower, it condenses moisture with increasing wind, creating an unusual formation of clouds. As the wind continues to blow, it pushes the cloud over the top, resulting in a lifting effect.
According to MeteoGib, in summer, these cloud formations can act as a kind of lid that traps hot, humid air on the western side of the mountain for several days, which can worsen the course of certain diseases, such as asthma and arthritis. They can even affect animals living nearby due to the effect of rain shadow, as a result of which a piece of land turns into a desert, since mountain ranges do not let rain clouds through.
But despite the danger they can pose, these clouds can be extremely spectacular.
