Initial data
The Northern half of the Willamette valley in Oregon has been hit by an epidemic of a very difficult-to-treat strain of Strep bacteria. Hospitals were full.
The witness, a 13-year-old boy at the time, contracted the bacteria in a local public pool while taking swimming lessons. He was hospitalized and lay for about a week and a half without recovering. The temperature was about 104 degrees Fahrenheit (°F) or 40 degrees Celsius.
The strep infection led to a serious kidney infection that none of the antibiotics seemed to help with.
One night, a creature that he thought was a nurse came to his bed. "She" wore hooded clothing like ancient monks, was round in shape, and her face had plastic-like skin, like burned soldiers returning from the Vietnam war. Her nose was only a V-shaped crest.
She said she had a solution to his problem and advised him to relax. An object that looked like a knotted rod of brushed aluminum flew out of her left sleeve. She pinned him to the core device, like an injection in the left thigh. He didn't feel the needle, just something like an ice cube pressing against his skin.
The next morning, around 11:00, his fever subsided for the first time.
