In the western part of the Sea of Marmara appeared "sea slime" - it was found off the coast of the province of Tekirdag in Turkey. This whitish coating on the surface of the water, clearly visible in the images in the form of streaks, indicates high contamination. "Sea slime" also prevents local fishermen from catching fish.
According to ecologist Mustafa Ozturk, the plaque appears due to the accumulation of sewage, which brings nitrogen, phosphorus and carbon. At the same time, the water temperature is rising due to climate change. In addition, at present, the water in the Sea of Marmara from a depth of 25 meters to the bottom (in some places in the coastal zone, the depth reaches 70 meters) is depleted of oxygen.
It is noted that the polluted water enters the local water area from the Black Sea. At the same time, it can stay in the water area of the Sea of Marmara for six months, which leads to a reduced level of oxygen content.
