Initial data
The witness, James P. Gooden, was serving in the marine corps at the time, living off base in Beaufort.
That day, he got up early to go to the base, and when he left the apartment, he noticed that something had escaped his peripheral vision. When he looked at it, he noticed that it was a figure about 7-8 feet (2.1-2.4 m) tall and all black.
He went to his car, which was parked right in front of his apartment, opened the doors and turned on the light. He could see it very clearly now, because she wasn't moving. The figure was completely black, with a large perfectly round head, no eyes or holes, only a perfectly round black shiny head.
Her body was very thin, like a stick with a torso, legs, and arms drawn on it. As the witness entered the car, the figure turned and leaned slightly, as if looking at him.
He started the car and drove at high speed through the residential complex. The complex was U-shaped, and his apartment was at the very end. The figure ran into the middle of the Room, where it was somewhat locked.
It stopped inside the U, so the witness moved his car away and walked towards it. She didn't move until he was about 15 feet (4.5 m) away and the car was looking straight at him. The witness then opened the car door and stood next to it.
Then the figure immediately took a step to the right, as far as the witness could tell. It "fell" to/into the ground very quickly. He went to the spot where it had disappeared, but there was no sign of a hole or anything unusual on the ground.
The witness then drove to the base, but when he saw a police officer on the way, he told him what he had seen.
