A California witness in avalon Harbor recalled an encounter with an underwater UFO in 1982 while the family was swimming to Catalina, according to testimony in case 72642 from the mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
The event took place on June 15, 1982.
"My stepfather and mother loved sailing in the '80s," the witness said. "He owned a construction company and made a good living. We rented a sailboat for the weekend and went to Catalina, where my grandmother had a clothing store on the island. We sailed there many times."
But one evening the family had a strange encounter when the witness, his stepfather and mother were sailing to Catalina.
"Around 20: 00 my mother shouts to my stepfather to look over the port side and asks what is it? I looked and saw a huge illuminated object moving rapidly under the water. My mother was very scared and came down."
My stepfather witnessed it, but he didn't know what it was either.
"He has served in the Navy for many years, traveled all over the world and knows ships and submarines. It lasted about five minutes, just going from one side to the other in a cross pattern."
The family stayed away from the facility.

My mother was very scared and went below.” The witnesses’ stepfather did not know what the object was either. “He was in the navy for years and sailed all over the world and knows ships and subs. It lasted around five minutes just going from one side and then the next in a crisscross pattern.” The family steered away from the object.
