Initial data
Sergey Kazakov met with the unknown creature twice.
The second meeting took place four years later (1993) near the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk. On a September morning, my friend and I were going to relax in nature. For one ruble, a fisherman on his boat took us across the Irtysh River to the left bank. For two hours we climbed the mountain Mayak and admired the panorama of the city from the height. Then we descended along the southern sloping side of the mountain and soon reached the Ablaketka river, which flows through the gorge. It was evening, and we decided to spend the night. We set up a tent, boiled tea, ate stewed meat and canned fish, sat around the fire for a while, and went to bed.
I woke up about three o'clock in the morning from strange sounds. It looked like someone was throwing large rocks into the water a hundred meters upriver. I shook my sleeping friend awake, and we crept out of the tent. Twenty meters away from the tent, the river gurgled, and the sounds of stones hitting the water stopped. There was a thick fog, and it was cool. There were splashes of water — someone was coming in our direction. We froze, peering into the fog.
In the dim moonlight, a tall, dark creature, very similar to what I had seen on the Ivanov Squirrels, was slowly trudging along the river. It passed us without slowing down. Hiding in the misty gloom below the river, this creature apparently got out on the bank and headed up. I could hear the branches crunching on the mountainside. We stood still for a long time, until we were sure that the mysterious visitor of the night was not coming back, and then we went to the tent. At dawn, after a hasty cup of tea, we quickly packed up our tent and our belongings, put on our backpacks, and walked towards the city.
