Reportedly, a strange creature, which the locals called Popobawa, attacked several men while they were sleeping. The creature was described as a wharf cyclops with bat-like wings and ears and sharp claws. Apparently, he has a nasty habit of raping men while they sleep in their beds.
The presence of an often invisible creature can be identified by an acrid smell or a puff of smoke. Sometimes it is reported that he is invisible to all but the frightened victim. It is believed that during the day it takes on a human form, but with pointed fingers.

Popobawa is the name of an evil spirit that is believed to have first appeared on the Tanzanian island Pemba. In 1995, it became the center of a major outbreak of mass hysteria or panic that spread from Pemba to Unguja, the main island The Zanzibar Archipelago, and to Dar es Salaam and other urban centers on the East African coast.
If the locals gave the name to this creature, then we can assume that it occurs on a Tanzanian island Pemba, although the year is not the same, but it may be a relapse of attacks.
