The atmosphere of Venus contains phosphine. This conclusion was reached by a British-American team of astronomers, analyzing data obtained by the Chilean radio Observatory ALMA and the infrared telescope in Hawaii, reports Astrobiology.com.

Phosphine is a gas that indicates complex chemical processes occurring in the atmosphere of the second planet. The presence of phosphine is highly likely to indicate the presence of living organisms on Venus.

It is noteworthy that until now, the vast majority of researchers were sure that Venus was unsuitable for life due to the extremely high temperature and pressure on the surface — along with the chemical composition of the atmosphere.

At the same time, phosphene was detected precisely at those atmospheric levels where some scientists theoretically allowed the presence of microorganisms.
