Initial data
Numerous observers saw a UFO over Nevada and California.
United Airlines captain E. L. Remlin, first officer David Stewart, the observer captain Sam B. wiper, and crew of 2 people and about 25 of the 50 passengers on the airliner (flying at a speed of 290 miles per hour at an altitude of 14,000 feet) saw a brilliant bluish object of cylindrical shape (or in the form of an airship). The object had orange ottink and was flying parallel with the airliner's course within 20 miles [3-5 minutes] at a distance of about 20-30 miles, and then went so far that he was out of sight.
A pilot of the military sea transport saw a dark gray or bronze object in the form of cigars (1/8 angular size of the moon in the full moon), with a weak radiation, and a design speed of 1,000-1,500 miles per hour. The object was moving at a height of 50 000-100 000 feet for 3 minutes, then changed course and disappeared in the East.
In Lovelock (Nevada), airport 30 pilots noticed that the condensation trail from the object was maintained for 20 minutes.
Witnesses in Ely, Pioche and Briston silver mine from Nevada watched the same condensation trail (or smoke) in the form of "3" in the West for half an hour.

Original news
Numerous observers over Nevada and Calif. United Airlines Capt. E. L. Remlin, First Officer David Stewart, observer Capt. Sam B. Wiper, and crew of 2, plus about 25 of 50 passengers on an airliner at 290 mph at 14,000 ft saw a brilliant bluish-center cylindrical or dirigible-shaped object with orange-tint fly a parallel course with the airliner for 20 miles [3-5 mins duration] at about 20-30 miles distance at 20,000 or 60,0000 or 80,000 ft then fade in the distance. Navy transport pilot sighted dark gray or gunmetal cigar-shaped object 1/8 Full Moon angular size, with faint radiant exhaust at estimated speed 1,000-1,500 mph, altitude 50,000-100,000 ft, 3 mins, traveling N then turned W to disappearance. Lovelock, Nev., airport 30 pilots sighted vapor trail persisting for 20 mins. Witnesses in Ely, Pioche, and Briston Silver Mine, Nev., sighted vapor trail or smoke in a “3” shape to the W for ½ hour. 3 mins (1/2 hr duration of contrail)
Hypotheses
Booster, the rocket and tracks
For UFOs often take stages of rockets, parts of space ships burning in the atmosphere, the launches of various missile technology for military purposes, etc., and traces from them. They attract attention mostly in the dark, but in the day time have a greater aura of mystery.
Formation of the track of the launch vehicle occurs in the tropopause (the layer between the troposphere and stratosphere), which sharply reduced the vertical temperature gradient. The emergence of the so-called "jellyfish" influenced by water vapor, which are subject to enhanced condensation.
