In the winter of 1976-1977 years, several polar explorers lived in Svalbard. One of the goals of this project was to photograph the Northern lights every minute.

Monica Kristensen, Norwegian glaciologist/ meteorologist/polar Explorer, saw the round white light came in from the sea and slowly flying towards NY Ålesund.

At first she thought it was a helicopter. He seemed to illuminating the landscape with a spotlight. It was later discovered that the object was photographed all-sky camera at the top of their research station, and was also seen by OLE Christian Rehren (another member of the expedition).

This photo has never been properly investigated by the Norwegian polar Institute or other
researchers.

A few enquiries were made, but the picture is now considered lost.
