Initial data
Woman saw an object in the shape of an egg that fell, slid across the roof, stopped, retreated and fell to the ground.
Initially, it looked like a balloon with orange fire at one end and, it seemed, rotated and rocked. When he stopped, he turned into a fireball that expanded, as if about to explode. When he retreated, then declined before the fall.
On site thinkaboutitdocs.com stated:
Very likely, it's a balloon with a candle*, often made of Laundry bag. This was commonplace at the time.
*vroyatno is an analogue of the modern sky lanterns.

10:04 p.m. PDT (11:04 p.m. MDT). A woman saw an egg-shaped object which swooped down, skimmed over rooftops, stopped, retreated, then fell to the ground. Initially it appeared like a balloon with orange fire at one end and seemed to rotate and wobble. When stopped, it became a ball of fire that expanded as if about to explode. When it retreated it diminished to a bright light, then to a flowing ash before falling. (Letter from witness, 10/23/67, NICAP files.) [Very probably a flare or candle-carrying hoax balloon, often made from a laundry bag, which were common at the time.]
