Initial data
Children began to disappear in this city, and within a few weeks dozens of young people, all between the ages of nine and fifteen and all from poor families, disappeared without a trace. The Espiritu Santo state police gathered their forces and launched a massive campaign to find the kidnapped people. But they had no leads, the disappearances seemed random, and none of the children knew each other or went to the same school.
Then, in February 1970, the four missing young men reappeared separately. Two of them were blindly wandering the streets, suffering from amnesia. Another couple was able to recall fragments of their adventure, but their stories were as bizarre as the James bond story.
According to them, they were stopped on the street and offered a ride in a large American-style limousine. As soon as they were in the car, they were given a cigarette (apparently with the addition of drugs), and they lost consciousness.
One remembered waking up in a small hut, bound hand and foot, when a stranger came in, freed him, and told him how to find the nearest police station.
An eleven-year-old girl identified as Vani said her captor was a woman named Laura. Laura fed her sweets and then took her to the field where the "plane" was waiting. Vani started screaming and fussing, and surprisingly Laura gave her some money and brought her back to the village.
Most of the Brazilian victims were boys, although there were a few girls. The returning children mostly described their captors as tall, blond, and European in appearance.

One returnee recalled that he awoke in a small hut, tied hand and foot, when a stranger entered freed him, and told him how to find the nearest police station. An eleven-year-old girl identified as Vani said her kidnapper was a woman named Laura. Laura fed her sweets and then took her to a field where an “airplane” was waiting. Vani began to scream and fuss, and surprisingly Laura gave her some money and returned her to her village. Most of the Brazilian victims were boys, although a few girls were included. The children that returned mostly described their kidnappers as tall, blond and European in appearance.
