The city editor of the Aubury Evening News was at the Butler police station when a woman entered.
"She looked at us nervously, then apparently pulled herself together and told the Marion County parole officer: "Will you promise not to think I'm crazy if I tell you something?»
Her hands were shaking, and her forehead was wet with sweat.
"I saw this thing. I was driving on State Rd. 1 near the woods on County Rd. 34. I moved to the crest of a high hill, and there it was, about 3 feet (0.9 m) above my car. It was about the length of the car, but it was perfectly round, with what looked like red fluorescent paint on the top, and four feet (1.2 m) below it."
The investigation showed signs of skidding at the place where she braked the car, another man reported a funny noise, another witness reported a high-pitched sound like whining.
