Initial data
A large "unidentified flying object with an orange glow" was spotted over Beijing.
Mrs Charles Phillips said she and her family were in their car when they first noticed the object. They stopped the car and were able to see something over Edison high school: it looked like there was a dome that was emitting orange light and there was pulsating traffic.
She said her family members could not hear a sound from the object, which she assumed was about 90 feet (27.4 m) high. The object hovered over the area, followed Court street to the Mall, then turned back and appeared to be heading for the Illinois river.
