According to your phone call today, I will repeat what we experienced on Board the coast guard cutter Spencer WHEC-36, commissioned in 1936 and decommissioned in 1974.

There's a new Spencer in service, but it's not the one I was on Board. My ship was a 327-foot boat. You can see it if you Google the coast guard cutter Spencer WHEC-36. I tried my best to remember the date, but since we were at so many ocean stations, it's hard to remember which one it was. Conditions were warm, the sea calm, and surveillance took place during the night. There were 140 people on Board the Spencer, and many of my teammates witnessed what I did.

The officers and enlisted men saw what I saw. I remember that (specialty removed) had some modern photographic equipment. I think he had an Olympus camera with a telephoto lens. He was at least one of the crew members who photographed this UFO.

We were in the middle of the Atlantic, all the lights on as usual.

I remember someone saying: "come on deck, there's a UFO."

The UFO had bright lights that changed color. It was as if a UFO was checking us out. A ship with its running lights on would be easily visible from above in the Atlantic. I was (specialty removed). Some of the names I remember were (not deleted).

I can't be sure they were on Board for this duty, but I'm sure at least one was. I don't remember the others.

The UFO was supposed to descend, hovering over us. We could see what I would call portholes. I turned as it hovered. The light changed color. Then it would rise in a second, becoming very small. Then it was like he was showing off, like he knew we were watching him.

It would speed across the sky in a split second, making right angles. Many photos of this ship were taken with a telephoto lens.

I remember I couldn't wait to see the photos after they were developed. I've never seen them.

The performance lasted about an hour. Reports of this were sent to Washington, DC.

When we were relieved of duty at the ocean station, we headed back to Governor's island, Yankee pier, where our home port was located. We did not expect such a reception. When we docked, I saw quite a lot of "men in black" waiting to Board our ship.

Usually after docking, if you were not on duty, we were given freedom usually for 72 hours, but this time no one was allowed to leave the ship. We were all interrogated by these “men in black"in turn.

We were told to sign an affidavit saying we didn't see anything. We were warned that if we told anyone about this, we would disappear. We were told not to go to any media outlets and try to tell this story. If we did, we would be harassed by the government.

Later I found out that my friend (specialty removed) had all his photographic equipment, photos and development equipment confiscated. They didn't reimburse him for any of his expensive equipment, they just took it away.

I will end my story here to be as brief as possible.

We could see what I would describe as portholes. I rotated as it hovered. The lights changed color. Then it would go up in a second becoming very small. Then it seemed to show off, as if it knew we were watching it. It would accelerate across the sky in a split second while doing right angles. Many photos of this craft were taken with telephoto lens. I remember I couldn’t wait to see the photos after they were developed. I never saw them. The show lasted about an hour. Messages of this sighting were sent to Washington, DC.! When we were relieved from Ocean Station Duty, we headed back to Governor’s Island, Yankee Pier, where was our home port.
