My girlfriend and I were camping in a backyard in the West end of Council bluffs, Iowa.
I noticed an object high in the sky moving from horizon to horizon like a satellite, except that it was red, moving slightly faster and from side to side in a wave, not fixed, but not entirely random. It flew much slower than the meteor.
We got up from our bunk to better look at the sky. After a while, we saw an object in the shape of a disk with red lights around the perimeter from a distance of about two miles. It seemed to be moving over the trees by the Missouri river, or following the river itself, not quite soaring, but moving slowly, leaning on its side and showing us something very unusual.
We watched him head South until we lost him under the trees. We kept our guard up and debated whether we should go to the Lewis and Clark monument, a cliff-top Park with views to the northeast and Omaha.
About 5 or 10 minutes after the object was last seen, it flew almost directly over our heads, about a block away, now flying North and still just above the level of the treetops. We lost his place and decided to go further and go to the Park.
We were driving through Big lake Park on the way, and I was watching him. I could see the object approaching in our direction, still at the level of the treetops, but I had the eerie feeling that it was approaching us. We panicked.
I wanted to hide under a railway bridge near a tennis court, and my girlfriend stopped the car about 50 yards from the bridge. we ran to the bridge and under it to hide. I've never felt this fear before or since, but as a pair of Prairie dogs, we felt obligated to look out and see even more of this incredible object - so we did.
It hovered over a large poplar tree near the tennis court, about 50-75 yards (45-69. 5 m) away. It was still dark outside. The disk appeared to be about 100 feet (30 m) in diameter with large red rectangular lights flashing sequentially along its edge, which appeared to be about 15 feet (4.5 m) thick.
As we watched, frozen with awe and fear, he lowered the edge as he hovered. one of the red lights went out, and a beam of light shot out in its place, illuminating us directly.
The next thing we remember is that it was already light and we were driving back in the car towards our original destination - the Lewis and Clark monument. We called the police and they said they got a report of something in the Missouri valley, Iowa, about 20 miles North.
The animals were acting strangely: either they were acting strangely quiet, or they were acting wildly. As we drove back through big lake Park, there were people who said they didn't see anything. I really don't know what time we're talking about here.
In 1974, I had never heard of the "lost time" phenomenon, but over time I learned the term well. We're not reporting a kidnapping. Dr. kasher of Univ. from Nebraska to Omaha, after hearing my story, referred me to a hypnotist. I never went... maybe out of fear. I was afraid to know more. To this day, I feel like I know enough.
That morning, the girl and I went home and drew the same pictures and repeated the same stories. I haven't had any trust since. You have to understand, at the time I thought the world was coming to an end or something.
In 1977, Popular mechanics magazine published an article about an incident that occurred very close by, when a clot of molten metal fell 500 feet (150 m) from an object similar in description to what we saw. Jacques Vallee came to investigate the incident. This is why I repeat my story and will always keep these vague memories and questions.
In 2001, I submitted a report to NICAP, but I know that MUFON is the right Agency for this now. I've never seen or experienced anything like this since, but I feel it every day.

We stood up from our cots to better watch the skies; a short time later we saw a disc shaped object with red lights on its perimeter from a distance of about two miles. it seemed to be moving above the trees near the Missouri river or following the river itself. not quite hovering, but moving slowly while tipping on its sides and demonstrating to us that this was something very unusual. We watched it head south until we lost it below the trees. We stayed alert and debated if we should go to Lewis and Clark monument, a park on the bluffs overlooking C.B and Omaha. About 5 or 10 minutes after last seeing the object, it flew almost directly over our heads, about a block away, now going north and still just above treetop level. we lost site of it and decided to go ahead and drive to the park. On the way we were driving through Big Lake park and I was keeping watch. I saw the object coming in our direction, still at treetop level, except I had the eerie feeling that it was coming for us. We panicked. I wanted to hide under the train bridge near the tennis court and my girlfriend stopped the car about 50 yards short of the bridge. we ran to and under the bridge to hide. I’ve never experienced that kind of fear before or since, but, like a couple of prairie dogs we felt compelled to peek out and see more of this incredible object–so we did. It was hovering above a large cottonwood tree near the tennis court about 50 to 75 yards away from us. It was still dark out.
