Initial data
When Marjorie Nybert awoke to a bright red light shining through her bedroom window, she hurried to the window, thinking that one of her neighbor's houses was on fire.
It was not a fire, but a large red flashing ball of light, larger than a washstand, moving slowly from the North to the Southeast. She described the object as a tadpole, with a constant flashing light. She couldn't detect any sound.
She said the object was clearly low in the sky, as it was periodically obscured from view by trees. He started toward the high school, turned around, and returned to her house. Then it turned in an easterly direction and disappeared from her view.

Summary: Awakened by a brilliant red light shining in her bedroom window, Marjorie Nighbert scurried to the window thinking one of her neighbor’s houses was on fire. It wasn’t a fire, but a large red blinking ball of light, larger than a “washtub”, moving slowly from the north in a southeasterly direction. She described the object as tadpole in shape, with lights blinking off and on in a constant pattern. She could detect no sound. She said the object was evidently low in the sky as it was obstructed from her view periodically by trees. It moved in the direction of the high school, made a U turn and came back toward her home. It then veered off in an easterly direction and disappeared from her view.
