Initial data
A bright ball of light flies directly over Zirndorf, Germany. The date is approximate, but it was in February or March 1975. I was 20 years old and served in the army.
I was at the Pinder barracks in Zirndorf, West Germany. Zirndorf is a suburb of Nuremberg.
We had just finished our morning dozen and were running in formation when I noticed a very bright ball of light no more than 300 feet (90 m) in front of me and about 500 feet (150 m) up. It was so bright that it took my eyes a few seconds to adjust to the surrounding light after it disappeared from view.
I couldn't determine the size or shape, but estimated it to be about 50 feet (15 m) in diameter. It just seemed like a ball of light, bright as the sun, with no discernible shape.
When I first saw it, it was already moving straight up at high speed and disappeared after about 2-3 seconds. I shouted: "Look!» and pointed at it, only to get a reprimand from the senior Sergeant for talking in the ranks.
I asked a few people, but if anyone else saw it, they didn't tell me anything.
