Steve Harris, 24, Stan Geyer, 19, and Carl Jackson, 35, were on a plain in the mountains where the first two had seen a large orange light the night before.
A metal detector conducted on these prints gave a positive reaction. At the same time, they heard a loud wavering high-pitched squeal that seemed to come from the canyon below, just 40-50 feet (12-15 m) away.
Stan pointed a powerful (200,000 candles) quartz-iodine hand-held spotlight at the ground, and everyone saw two large eyes reflecting the light, 30 to 40 feet (9 to 12 m) apart, silver-blue, 2.5 inches (6.3 cm) in diameter and 8 inches (20.32 cm) apart, 5 feet (1.5 m) above ground level. Around and under these eyes, despite the bright light, there was only a vague black outline.
After about a minute, the eyes turned away, as if the creature was now retreating down the embankment, but still no shape was visible.
The three men got into their car and started it, but it didn't budge. All four wheels spun as if the car was suspended directly above the ground. After 15-20 seconds, the car suddenly shot forward, and then behaved normally.

At the same time they heard a loud fluctuating high pitched screeching sound, which seemed to come from the canyon below, only 40-50 ft away. Stan turned a powerful (200,000 candlepower) quartz-iodine hand spotlight toward the ground, and all saw two large eyes reflecting the light, 30-40 ft away, silvery blue, 2.5″ in diameter and 8″ apart, 5 ft above ground level. Only a vague black outline could be seen around and below these eyes, in spite of the bright light. After about a minute, the eyes turned away, as if the being were now retreating down the embankment, but still no form could be seen. The 3 men got into their car and started it, but it did not move; all 4 wheels were spinning, as if the car were suspended just above the ground. After 15-20 seconds of this, the car suddenly bolted forward, and then behaved normally.
