Several security guards at the Manzano weapons depot adjacent to Kirtland air force base saw a bright light drop in the restricted area. The fourth security guard saw a light in the shape of a disc around a bunker used to store nuclear weapons.
As a result of the incident, a report was filed with the air force office of special investigations (AFOSI) in Kirtland.
The incident was later investigated by agent Richard Doty , an interesting and mysterious figure often featured in UFO literature. Doty filed a preliminary report on the incident, which was recognized and published by the air force.
