It was the summer of 1982. I was 14 years old, living in Eliott, Maine , a small town across the river from Portsmouth, new Hampshire. Our house was empty, since we were moving to Alaska that week, and the movers had already taken our things. It was dusk, and I was upstairs in my room, lying in my sleeping bag, listening to the radio and looking out the window, which no longer had curtains.
Suddenly, I saw a black geometric object moving rapidly in a zigzag pattern in the air above the tree line behind my house. The distance from me was about 1.5 the length of a football field. His movement reminded me of an air hockey puck with an instant change of direction.
It was zig-zag, but in my General direction. At this distance, the overall shape of the object seemed to be flat in relation to the ground, with a wider end in the direction of movement, that is, towards me.
But it was hard to tell because of the distance and speed of the object. The object kept its height in the air constant, about 5-10 feet (1.5-3 m) above the trees.
I got up and knelt by the window to get a better look, but I couldn't see him anymore. The way it moved made the view seem unreal, and I knelt by the window for a few minutes to try to see the object again, but couldn't. I couldn't understand what I was seeing.
As I started to look away from the window to return to lying down, out of the corner of my eye I noticed an object hovering over my backyard, about 30-40 feet (9-12 m) from my window, about the same height in the air as my window on the second floor of the house. It was completely quiet and completely still, and a second ago it wasn't there.
It looked like it was made of metal, but was a dull metallic color, without Windows, lights, doors, or any seams, but had a few small protrusions that looked like appliances, which gave me the impression that it was some kind of technique.
This was the approximate size of the car. The shape was a trapezoid-a square or rectangle "in front" and a larger square or rectangle at the back, so that the product narrowed from the back to the front.
It looked like a pyramid turned on its side with the pointed part removed. Or maybe it's better to describe it as a blunted wedge.
This shape seemed different from what it looked like when it zigzagged over the trees, but I could have mistaken its shape when it was over the trees, as it was some distance away and moving quickly.
I had absolutely no fear of the object - only curiosity about what I was looking at. I stared at it for about 4 seconds, and then it disappeared in an instant. It flew away so fast that I could hardly tell that it had gone in any direction, and not just disappeared. The object went in the opposite direction. Although the aircraft appeared to have a front and rear end, it did not turn around before changing its direction.
When the song on the radio ended, the DJ said that he was bombarded with calls about some object seen in the air. I also called the radio station and told the DJ that I also saw the object, but it was exactly as much as I told him.
I still haven't heard any UFO reports describing a ship of this shape. All my life, I rarely thought about this experience. It wasn't until recently, when I saw a show about UFOs describing the same flight characteristics, that I really started to think about my experience and realize that what I saw was a UFO.
Now I am an engineer and I understand that the flight characteristics of this device contradict our understanding of physics. It had no wings or control surfaces, and was completely silent.
He didn't need to move to stay in the air. It didn't seem to be affected by gravity or inertia. It had the ability to instantly change speed and direction, including the ability to hover completely still.
Presumably, there were many people who saw the ship that night. So maybe there are records of this somewhere. I was listening to a popular pop radio station.

- The weather was perfect on a New England summer evening. Good weather. Clear sky. Twilight. The light level is still decent. no smell.

It was zig-zagging, but traveling in my general direction. At this distance, the general shape of the object seemed to resemble a coffin – oriented flat with respect to the ground, with the wider end towards the direction of travel, which was towards me.
But it was hard to tell because of the distance away and the object’s speed. The object kept its height in the air constant, about 5 to 10 feet above the trees.
I got up and kneeled at the window to get a better look, but could no longer see it. The way it moved made the sight seem unreal, and I stayed kneeling by the window for a few minutes to try to see the object again, but did not. I could not comprehend what I had seen.
