Initial data
I'm driving home past the train station. I saw the ball of light rise up, move horizontally for about 100 yards (90 m), then move unsteadily in a zigzag, until finally it rises straight up, and the fire "goes away" and disappears.
Me and my husband were coming home from a party (I wasn't drinking!). As we passed parallel to the station, I noticed a ball of light rising. I thought it might be a flash or something, and then when it was moving horizontally, almost in line with the fly connecting the station to the main part of the city, I told my husband that it must be a bicycle or someone walking on the bridge.
I slowed down, and then it became obvious that the light was over the bridge and much higher than it seemed at first. the light (the size of a soccer ball relative to us on the ground) then began to move jerkily in a zigzag pattern in a northeasterly direction for another 600 yards (540 m) (approximately), then rose faster and disappeared.
At this point, the fire "fell" far from the base of the ball in a small amount, it just quieted down for a second before disappearing.

Summary: Driving home past railway station . Saw ball of light rise up, travel horizontally for approx 100 yards then unsteadily zig zag until finally rise directly up with fire ‘trailing’ off until disappeared. Myself and my husband were coming home from a party (i had not been drinking!) as we passed parallel to the station i noticed a ball of light rising up. I thought this might be a flare or something similar, then as it moved horizontally, almost in line with the fly over connecting the station to the main side of town , i said to my husband it must be a bike or someone walking across the bridge. I Slowed right down and then it became apparent that the light was above the bridge and much higher than it had first appeared. the light (about the size of a football in relation to us on the ground) then started zigzagging jerkily in a north easterly direction for a further 600 yards (approx) then rose more quickly and disappeared . At this point fire ‘dropped’ away from the base of the ball not large amounts, it was just trailing off for a second before it disappeared.
