Ведлозеро, Щукнаволок
Kareliya, Respublika
Russia

The history of UFO visits to the surroundings of this picturesque Karelian lake began on November 15, 1928. A resident of the village of Shchuknavolok Fyodor Yegorov in 1988 told in an interview with researcher Alexey Popov from the committee for the study of anomalous phenomena "Sphinx" that in that distant year he was only nine years old, but he saw a UFO with his own eyes. A low-flying cylindrical object the size of a peasant's house appeared quite silently from behind the forest. It slowly flew over the heads of the inhabitants of the villages of Shchuknavolok and Vedlozero and suddenly fell into the water, breaking through the thin ice. Fyodor Yegorov swore that the UFO passed only some three hundred meters above his head. About 50 people witnessed the fall of the object into the water.

The fall was not without consequences: breaking the thin ice, a large wave rose on the lake and washed away the trees on the island of Chiiraako, behind which the object fell.

If there were no island, the wave would most likely have come to the streets of the village of Schuknavolok. Fortunately, this did not happen.

The depth at the site of the fall was quite large — up to seven meters.

Of course, the residents of the local villages immediately reported the incident to the right place, suspecting that the object could be some kind of aircraft from unfriendly Finland. It was rumored that the OGPU employees still came, went on boats on the lake, looked into the water, but what can you distinguish there in late autumn? Nothing but ice.

Nevertheless, the military still found the object. It turned out that its upper edge is hidden under water in some 70 centimeters from the surface. The OGPU employees really wanted to get the "barrel", but there was no suitable equipment, it remained lying in the lake. Yegorov said that in the summer, on hot days, local boys swam to this place and could, straightening up, stand on the edge of the UFO. They dived into the depths in the hope of understanding what it was, but they could not dive far: the water below was icy, and there were no protrusions on the "barrel" — smooth, shiny walls went to the bottom. Sometimes adult fishermen stood on the UFO, choosing nets.

Since that time, the inhabitants of the villages of Vedlozero and Schuknavolok began to meet a strange creature on the shore. The boys said that when they saw people, the creature threw itself into the water, so it was difficult to see it. However, it was possible to see that this is a certain humanoid of small stature-about a meter, in some kind of clothing, very similar to a modern wetsuit or jumpsuit. It has slender legs and arms, and a large head with eyes that glowed green in the dark. The locals were initially afraid of the humanoid, but later they called it Yegorka and decided that it was a merman.

Tourists who did not know about the "Yegorka" or alien fishermen, sometimes, and ran away from the humanoid. They said that sometimes "Yegorka" got close to them and seemed to try to make mental contact, "get into the brains" of sleeping people, but honest Soviet citizens who did not believe in devilry or UFOs often drove him away with stones.

However, this is not the whole story. The sequel followed in 1933, when low black clouds approached the villages from the lake, from which some strange transparent jelly spilled on the ground. The strange mass appeared on an area of several tens of square meters. The villagers wanted to rake the substance with brooms and shovels to take it away, but on the advice of the local herbalist Maria Ogarkova, they collected the jelly in bottles and tried to heal their wounds. The remedy turned out to be miraculous and during the Great Patriotic War saved more than one life — women treated children and the wounded with it.

But that's not all. On the water of the Vedlozer at the site of the UFO crash, since 1937, colored glowing circles began to appear, and there was a glow in the sky. It was said that it was at this time that the receivers of the villagers began to flutter, the lights flickered.

During the war, the banks of the Vedlozer were occupied — the Finns ruled here. Of course, the story of the UFO could not fail to interest the Nazis. They simply evicted all the inhabitants from the coastal villages and conducted some kind of expedition on the Vedlozer. Whether they found something or not is unknown. However, there were many Nazis, they came in several trucks, dived into the lake.

After the war, the "barrel" was forgotten for a while — it was not up to that.

However, starting around the 1980s, the phenomenon began to remind itself of glowing circles on the water, a glow in the sky, and the constant appearance of UFOs of various shapes over the forest and water. Residents of the village of Schuknavolok have accumulated a lot of not just evidence-video recordings of unidentified flying objects, now and then hovering over the lake. Fly in a string, there are huge white balls, red sparkling spheres, UFOs in the form of triangles, pyramids and "classic" flying saucers.

At the same time, not only local residents, but also search engines-researchers who periodically conduct research on their own-are trying to attract the attention of scientists to the Vedlozero phenomenon. To no avail. Neither Soviet scientists nor Russian Vedlozero were interested. There is a version that they are silent for a reason — they probably know something. Because some residents say that in 1982 there was a large-scale search expedition on the lake under the leadership of the KGB and with the participation of the military. The expedition included a large cargo helicopter, divers, and even a crane. But, according to rumors, the military did not find anything and left.

Since 1990, a real pilgrimage of search engines and ufologists has begun on Vedlozero. They dived in different places, swam on boats with equipment, but they did not find anything worthwhile — the search is hindered by the silted bottom.

Meanwhile, the circles continue to appear, the saucers fly, and the restless "Yegorka" still scares away fishermen and tourists. In April 2008, residents of several villages located around Vedlozer saw a glittering ball, from the passage of which the windows in the houses shook. The event made a strong impression on people, many called the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

The journalist Valentin Degterev is generally sure that the object can be found in Google maps at coordinates 61.562051°, 32.819164°. Allegedly, some satellite images show a glowing object at the bottom of the lake.

However, the consequences of all this devilry still exist: over the past hundred years, Vedlozero has become much shallower, its banks have become swampy, and the water has become muddy and blooms until the very ice age. No other way the mysterious "Yegorka" muddies the water. When the lake shallows, a small plate will finally appear on the surface, free itself from the long-standing silt and fly away. If, of course, there is one at all.
