Initial data
Early in the morning, a man looked out the window of his living room and noticed a yellow saucer-shaped object located several degrees above the horizon. There was a street lamp in the foreground. It was about 4 o'clock in the morning, the sky was overcast. He estimated the size of the object to be about half of the cigarette he was holding at arm's length.
He also said that at one point the light would flash for half a second or so and then reappear. Shortly after, the object disappeared from view.
When he told his girlfriend about his appearance the next day, she said it must have been the Northern lights. He replied by saying that the UFO was in the southern part of the sky, and the northern lights are usually observed in the northern sky.
