My grandmother saw a UFO in 1939.
In 1939, in winter (25-30 km from the city of Rezekne, in Latvia), crossing the Partovo Lake with a friend on the ice, they discovered such a sight (then I just retell): ... there was a quiet hiss, and an object appeared from behind the forest, having the shape of a giant ball, gradually narrowing. Something like a comet with a tail. And at the end of the tail was a ruby-red iridescent star.
The ball itself was bright white, the tail was yellow, the end of the tail was red. The UFO flew silently, strictly from East to West. It flew very low, almost touching the tops of the trees. The ball flew away as silently as it appeared.
The next day there was a very strange sunset: the sun was blood-red and the snow was red like blood. The old people said that the sunset was a sign from God that there would be a terrible war and a lot of blood would be shed. (As I understood it, the ball was 100-150 meters in diameter, and 400-600 meters in length). At first I thought it was a comet, but to have a comet in the atmosphere... I thought it was a blimp, but that also fell away, otherwise they would have written in the newspapers. And where did such a large aircraft come from in Latvia in the 30s?
