Observation of the Cathedral of Cadiz (September 5, 1979, 23:30)

In the city of Cadiz (Spain) on the evening of September 5, 1979, numerous people witnessed the observation, highlighting a significant number of fishermen who were working at the time of the event and saw the object in the vicinity of the San Sebastian Castle and Lighthouse.

This observation was investigated by the GEIFO group, interviewing numerous witnesses in different parts of the city, whose testimony coincided in the details of the case, practically not differing in their testimony. The phones in the newspaper "Diario de Cadiz" were ringing by leaps and bounds, and people were interested in the nature of the object.

Photographer Movellan was sent by the newspaper to the cathedral area to photograph the object in question. It had the shape of a disk and was about 40 meters in diameter. The UFO, according to eyewitnesses, had several colors and looked "like a carousel at a fair." It also rotated around its axis, and its lower part seemed concave.

Diario de Cadiz has published news about this event, from which we can draw the following conclusions:

"The time was about eleven at night. About two nautical miles from the Castle of San Sebastian, a ball the size of an orange became visible. He performed strange maneuvers in the air... a football, with the light of a powerful spotlight, with a bluish-white light. He headed towards the cathedral, remaining motionless above it for a sufficiently long period of time, which allowed Movellan to photograph him..."

A few minutes later, the UFO headed at high speed from west to east towards the port of Santa Maria. Power outages were reported in several sectors of the old city, which caused uncertainty and anxiety among the residents of Cadiz.

Case No.: 001

Case Name: The Cadiz Cathedral Sighting (September 5, 1979 at 11:30 pm)

In the city of Cadiz (Spain) on the evening of September 5, 1979, numerous people were witnesses to a sighting, highlighting a considerable number of fishermen who were working at the time of the event, and who saw the object in the vicinity of the San Sebastián Castle and Lighthouse.

This sighting was investigated by the GEIFO group, interviewing numerous witnesses in various parts of the city, whose testimony on the details of the case coincided, with barely any discrepancies in their accounts. The telephones at the Diario de Cadiz newspaper rang off the hook, with people inquiring as to the nature of the object.

The photographer Movellán was sent by the newspaper to the Cathedral area to photograph the object in question. It was disc-shaped and measured some 40 meters in diameter, approximately. The UFO, according to witnesses, had a number of colors and looked "like a merry-go-round at the fair." It also rotated on its own axis, and its lower section appeared to be concave.

Diario de Cadiz published a news story on the event, from which we can abstract the following:

"The time was around eleven at night. Some two nautical miles distant from San Sebastián Castle, a sort of ball with the apparent size of an orange became visible. It executed strange maneuvers in the air...it grew in size until it resembled a football, with the luminosity of a powerful searchlight, with a bluish-white light. It headed toward the Cathedral, remaining motionless above it for a sufficiently long span of time that allowed Movellán to photograph it...."

Minutes later, the UFO headed at high speed in an west-to-east direction, toward the Port of Santa María. There were blackouts reported in several sectors of the old city, creating uncertainty and concern among residents of Cadiz.

Points to take into account:

- Numerous witnesses

- The phones at Diario de Cadiz rang insistently, reporting the sighting.

- Diario de Cadiz sent out Movellán, who successfully photographed the object.

Evaluation:
