A team of Turkish and American scientists has discovered the first written sources that recorded the death of a person from the fall of a celestial body.

Early legends about the dead meteorites can be found in the biblical texts, but until now scientists could not substantiate these documents. Finally, when the study of the Turkish state archives was able to identify mentions of such cases.

The researchers were lucky to find three letters in the language of the Ottomans. They argued that in August of 1888, one of the meteorites, breaking the atmospheric layer of the Earth and not burned through from friction with the air, struck a man to death in the city of Suleimani (Iraq), while near him a companion was wounded.

According to the documents, on 22 August, the city was struck by several cosmic bodies. the Main culprit of the tragedy had a spherical shape and shining. Fragments of meteorites have caused damage to crops, including through the use of shock waves.

Research continues, and perhaps soon will open the new documentary evidence of such cases.
