Thermoplane is the name of a family of hybrid airships for cargo transportation to hard-to-reach areas.
The shell of the prototype ALA-40 had a volume of 10660 cubic meters with a diameter of 40 m. There are two volumes inside the shell: one is filled with helium, the second is filled with hot air (the exhaust of the main engines). The prototype was equipped with 2 Klimov GTD-350 engines (400 hp each), 1 M-14P engine (360 hp) and 2 electric propulsion units of vertical thrust (50 hp each). The flight crew consisted of 2 pilots who were placed in the main part of the fuselage of the Mi-2 helicopter suspended under the disk (without the tail boom).
