Residents of the village of Tecpan, Guatemala, are alarmed by a series of mysterious murders of their farm animals, which, according to some, may be the work of the legendary Chupacabra.
A strange case has been going on for several months: various animals were found dead with strange markings and drained of blood.
In March, an unknown predator killed 75 chickens, ducks, turkeys and pigs in this way. A few weeks later, another attack similarly killed even more farm animals.
Villagers suspect that the culprit may be the chupacabra, a mythical creature that is said to suck the blood of livestock.
According to folklore, a chupacabra can have a different appearance: from a reptilian alien creature (in Puerto Rico and Latin America) to a canine creature (in the southwestern United States).
"Some neighbors say it could have been a chupacabra," said one villager, "while others say they heard something like a meow at night and saw something that looked like a wolf."
Villagers are concerned that the predator may target children next time.
"We don't know what kind of animal it is," said another resident of the village, "we ask the authorities to pay attention to this situation and help us identify the animal that is behind all this."
