Letter to the Commission on AYA from BAUMANIS Leon Yansovich, member of the Supreme Court of the Latvian SSR:

After reading your article in the newspaper "Trud" dated 30.01.86, I inform you the following:

On September 7, 1984, under the following circumstances, I noted the following: I spent my vacation time in the Rezekne district. At 4.00 in the morning I saw a phenomenon that had not been heard of before and no one had seen.

The place of the phenomenon: Rezekne district is 13 kilometers from Malta and 4 kilometers along the Malta road - the village of Zosna - Maltechka, where the local road goes from the road to the state farm "Shakonkalno".

There were four of us. In two cars - me and my friend Janis Zagorsky, who lives in the city of Rebekn, in a GDZ-68 car and two comrades familiar to him, were returning from fishing on a vase.

There was a very thick fog on the lake. After driving away from the lake for about 5 km, we stopped at the above place, where we said goodbye. Suddenly, ahead of us, about above the Cooperage house, which is 1 km away, it seemed to me that a helicopter with a large strong concentrated headlight was walking over the road, a beam parallel to the ground. I showed my comrades and we thought that the helicopter.

About 250 m away from us, the headlight was directed perpendicular to the ground and slowly moved towards us, illuminating the ground with white full moon light. The headlights were turned off. The duc stopped about 70-100 meters away from us and brightly illuminated an old bathhouse, bushes, a cow, a sheep. The next morning I determined the distance from us to the trees and the bathhouse. The object (where the beam came from) was about 40-70 meters from the ground. If there was fog on the lake at that time, then there was a clear sky with bright stars and the object covered the sky like a dark elliptical spot. To define more specifically

the contours were impossible.

Apart from the beam of light, nothing else was visible. No sound, no hall. Then the object moved in our direction (or beam), 30 meters. We were scared. We left on the gas on the way to the hill to the house of Zagorsky's parents (to the left), and "Zhiguli" on the road straight (the object from them remained a little sluva), and from us to the right. After about 100 meters on a hillock, Zagorsky and I stopped and began to examine the beam of light. No sound, just bright light. Suddenly the beam disappeared (instantly!), the object began to blink with blue, green, yellow, electronic eyes (like a flashing light of special vehicles, only a few), and from below appeared balls of smoke, green-pink-blue. The smoke was spreading bistro (on TV and in movies before the launch of missiles), there was no smell. Like an atomic bomb, just a foot up!

My friend and I thought that the gases were bent into the car and Zagorsky could not start the automaton (either from fright, or ...).

Up to this point, 7 minutes have passed since I saw the beam (I fixed it exactly). in 3 minutes we reached the house, skirting the forest (800-1000 meters) and again saw the phenomenon. Now it looked like the outgoing jet of a rocket, like a gas-welding wick, leaving very quickly in the direction from which it came, and far, far away in five to seven minutes, while it is visible.

It is the stages that are characteristic:

I. When I saw - a beam of light above the ground parallel

2. The light beam is perpendicular and the movement

3. After stopping again a little forward

4. Tangles of gas (cooking)...?

5. As if turning from a perpendicular position again to a parallel or slightly upward

6. Removal (gases, smoke cover most of the forest, clearings)
