Thousands of gelatinous creatures washed up on the coast of South Carolina, forcing beachgoers worried. What really are these strange formations?
Ryan Rastan wrote on Facebook that, walking along the beach on 28 November, he "felt under his feet jump little water balloons, soft". Rastan looked down and realized what it was.
Don Corsi posted some more photos in the same group in Facebook. Users assumed that education jelly-like — egg jellyfish, burrowing sea cucumbers or salp.
Biologist Christopher J. Lowe and his colleague believe that it is the sea cucumbers or sea cucumbers.
Matt Bracken from the University of California, Irvine, however, is confident that California beaches crawled pelagic tunicates, also known as salp.
While experts have expressed their guesses, beach-goers share their hypotheses, among which is a small graboid, eggs, coyotes, creepy sea creatures, aliens that suck out people's brains and take over the world.
